What Makes a Task Chair Ergonomically Designed?

Posted on by admin

As more and more of us work in office-based environments the issue of seating and workstation ergonomics is of greater importance than ever before. Here at OEG Interiors we can offer a wide range of intelligently designed and stylish task chairs that have ergonomic design at their heart, but what are the features of an office chair that make sure it looks after your spinal health?

The Seat

They key to an ergonomic seat is for it to be easily adjusted to suit the size of the person. A seat height between 16 and 21 inches should be suitable for most people, however you need to ensure that it is adjusted to allow you to keep your thighs and arms horizontal and your feet flat on the floor.

It is also essential that the task chair’s seat is wide and deep enough to comfortably fit the user, with approximately 2 to 4 inches between the back of the knee and the front edge of the seat.

The Backrest

An ergonomic backrest is vital to ensure that you provide your back with the proper support, particular Lumbar support. Sitting without the correct support puts strain on the lower spine, and a well designed ergonomic chair should have lumbar adjustments (height and depth) so each individual can set up the chair to suit them.

As well as having the correct adjustments, it is important that the chair has effective locking mechanisms to stop the backrest moving too far backwards once the user has set it to the appropriate angle.

If you’d like to find out more about seating ergonomics and how our range of task chairs can help your spine stay healthy and comfortable at work get in touch with our team today on 0117 915 9990.
