Three Key Ingredients To A Successful Reception Design

Posted on by admin

Office renovations are fantastic for any business – and here at OEG Interiors we’re constantly seeing the benefits that it brings firms in all areas, from practical productivity to positive impressions. However, one area that needs particular attention in its own way is your building’s reception area.

After all, it’s the first thing interviewees and potential/existing clients see, as well as the first thing your employees see every morning – there’s a lot riding on this comparatively small space. So what qualities does a successful reception require? Our latest blog post looks at just this aspect.

1. An Unbeatable First Impression

At the very top of the list for successful aspects of a reception area is that all-important first impression. It doesn’t matter whether it’s potential customers, existing clients or interviewees/potential employees, your reception is effectively a public-facing reflection of your company, how you operate and what your overall attitude is. When considering design you need to take into account what your corporate image is – who are your target market; what demographic do your employees fit it; what do you want to say about your business?

This will help dictate whether you opt for modern or traditional design – warm and welcoming or spacious and minimalistic, high-tech and interactive or simple and functional. We’re always on hand to help your ideas bloom, but this kind of thought process will help to pin down an initial brief.

2. Staff Functionality

This might sound sort of odd, as you may imagine your employees spending a majority of their time at their desks, but style and design is not the only aspect of a successfully designed reception area. The fact that it has to be practical and functional for your reception staff goes without saying, but you do have to consider your other employees as well. For example, will there be adequate furnishings and facilities to carry out an informal client meeting? Perhaps you may envisage staff carrying out some work here, such as workshops or side projects. Your reception can be so much more than just an entrance!

3. Motivational For Employees

As we mentioned in the introduction, aside from the outside of the building, your office’s reception area is going to be the first thing your employees see in the morning so it’s vital that this instils the right mood and mindset for them. The approach and consideration for this is fairly similar for creating a first impression – ensure the reception area is spacious, warm in decoration to create a welcoming feel, and styled in such a way that speaks to the type of employees you have. For example, if you work in digital media your workforce will typically be younger so contemporary, modern design is the perfect approach.
